Topic title: Triang windows in Stockbrokers

My Stockbroker house was offered to me, as the family wanted a good home where it would be cherished.  I insisted on giving a sizable "donation" for the gift of their part of their childhood (as I phrased it!) ... hopefully the original owner will treat themselves. All of my houses (apart from the free loft find in my parent's new house!), were from elderly owners, in various states of repair (and great disrepair!). I always send photos of the gently restored house, so they can see that their childhood dolls house is cherished once again. I also strive to write down the house's histories ... stories of childhood's through time.

It's very true as you say ... the minature world has never been more appealing!

It made me smile that someone else was also looking at vintage dolls house items on eBay on a Saturday night (I just got pipped out of a gorgeous old piano!) ... tho I am rather housebound with a toddler niece sleeping upstairs tonight!

I paid the same for my Stockbroker as I did the four Triang furniture items ... all together came to under £100 which I thought was a good price for such a lovely house as a Stockbroker, plus original Triang furniture contents. I've also managed to get the single missing window pane on the same online auction site luckily (very cheap as rusty, but I can sort that out and I'll put that pane at the side of the house!).

It's a lot for me to spend, but I have a Stockbroker ... enough said!!

Thank you so much for this alert, but I actually have bought one very recently to go with my new Stockbroker. A dresser, sink and bath came with it (all from the same old house), and looking at the price of the single cooker (gulp!), I think I paid a good price for the four items I bought!

That's very useful information, thank you, and explains why it has worn in places. I had always thought the Stockbrokers had the same cardboard roof as the other Triang houses I have, so it's interesting to note the difference!

It's also very useful to have a suggested colour match, thank you ... and one of my other Triang houses also needs a retouch after it's essential roof repair (one roof section was detached completely after many years in an attic)!

Thank you - my roof sounds exactly the same, including the worn sections! That's a great tip to restore the tile pattern, and as the most worn section is luckily at the back of the roof (unsure why that section in particular got the most wear?!) ... I may try this technique! Thank you so much for the information!

Wow - thank you for directing me to this! It is the same as mine ... the same flooring, the exact same wallpaper as in some of my rooms, plus the same fireplaces! I wonder, looking at this house, if my house should have also had a fourth fireplace in the 'kitchen', as there has obviously been something removed from the torn wallpaper there in my house, which I assumed was the cooker, but maybe was a fourth fireplace instead! This is so useful seeing this house!

And yes, wallpapering onto card is an excellent idea! I think I keep the hallway and the kitchen as is, as the papers are in relatively good condition, but for the other rooms I'll use that idea! Thank you!

I believe my house can't be a 1960's house, as has the original triangle shaped Tri-ang label on the back, which means it must have been made before 1951. The Stockbroker houses were not made after 1959, I believe? I wonder if the flooring is an addition to the house at a later date than the house's manufacture perhaps?

That makes sense, as I thought they were very different papers from my other Triang houses, being thicker, embossed and also on some walls, a join partway was made! I could see they were original though, as the papers go right up to the fireplaces, over all the stairwell and no paper present underneath the bits that were lifting up. I may keep the stairwell as is to show the original paper, as the paper is in good condition there, but decorate the other rooms where the paper is in poor condition/mainly missing, with other Triang replica papers.

I also wondered about the flooring as it is a dark, planked design, but think this is also original? Plus there are differing Triang fireplaces, two lovely art-deco style ones upstairs, but then the usual three-piece wooden mantle fireplace downstairs? Would the downstairs one have been replaced at some point (though seems to be attached to the wall), or did some Stockbroker houses have a different fireplace downstairs?

I love being able to ask all these questions of the font of knowledge that people have on this wonderful site! Thank you so much!

Thank you very much for that info ... I would prefer just to touch up if possible, and luckily the worst areas at at the back of the roof. I'll try later on to post a photo, but struggled last time to upload photos on here!

Thank you for your reply - my roof is definitely made of wood, but just can't work out how the tile pattern was added? In the places where it has worn, bare wood is visible. My Stockbroker was made between 1949-1951 (I've been able to date it from the fantastic info on here, as it has green/white windows and an intact triangular Tri-ang label on the back).

Can I ask a question about Stockbroker roofs? My (new!) Stockbroker has it's originally painted roof, a red/brown colour ... but in places it is very worn and the tile pattern is absent ... only the wood showing. Was the tile paper created using embossed paper ... as doesn't appear to be carved into the wood of the roofs? Just wondering what to do, as would like to paint the bare sections, but worried that if I paint all the roof, I'd lose the roof patterning?

Porridge is a good word ... my papers are beige with differing swirls ... very much like porridge! I'll try to add photos very soon!

I wonder if I could see your ("boring!") wallpapers? I have just bought a Stockbroker which appears to have quite pale, but original wallpapers.

Can I ask about the differing coloured windows in Stockbroker houses? When did the green frames become introduced? Thank you!
