Topic title: Empty albums.

Hi Mrs G, re the empty albums - I think you mean empty categories. They look like albums on this new website, but they're actually just categories - makers' names, etc. We did have some empty categories on the old website (though far fewer), but they weren't noticeable because the names were just in a list, whereas here they appear as folders. If we delete the categories which don't yet have any albums in them, we would have to add them again when someone adds an album of photos of that maker's products. As we all know, downloading photos from the old site and uploading them here is a slow process. It is at least easy to see which categories don't yet have anything in them.

As for other sites about miniatures - which ones are you thinking of? It's hard to know what the reason for the difference in loading times might be without knowing which ones are faster.

Hi Liza,

When you click on 'Latest Forum Posts' it just takes you to the general forum view. Once you're there, click on 'Latest' and you will see all the discussions ordered by the time of the most recent post in them. Or, if you click on the individual forum topics in Latest Forum Posts, it takes you to that particular topic.

Hi Alliee, thanks for sharing this house! I have been able to find, from digitised telephone directories, that a W.J. Rix lived in St Albans, Herts in the 1970s and 80s. The electoral roll shows a W.J. Rix living there in 2002. So far, that's all I've found - if I come across any more, I'll let you know.

And it is quite simple to see if there are any responses - if you go to the Forum (by clicking on Forum in the pink banner at the top of the page, or clicking Explore More under Latest Forum Posts, or the Forum icon on the home page), then click Latest, you see the individual discussions listed with the most recently added or commented on topic at the top, and it also shows the number of comments in that discussion. The number doesn't include the OP - it's just the comments added after the discussion was posted. Using the Latest view option, you don't have to look in all the discussion categories to see what's been added.

No, you're right, Zoe, we haven't established that all Dolly Mixtures were made in Wakefield Prison, and as you say, the features of various Dolly Mixtures indicate that they probably weren't. So my comments about what might be original, or not, are wrong (or at least based on a false comparison).

There is an identical one on our old website, in an album called Little Folks Stores, as it has that name on a sticker across the front:

https://www.dollshousespastandpresent.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=15996895

On the first photo, there's the comment that it was identified as a Dolly Mixture (which we now know to have been made in Wakefield Prison). I'm not sure if it was discussed in the forums on the old site - and I'm not sure if the member who owned the shop and posted the photos has joined this new website yet (not under the name she used on the old site, I think).

I don't know if all the pieces would have come with the house when it was first sold - possibly some did, if Wakefield Prison supplied the shops to a maker of miniature groceries. It was not unusual for foods and boxes to be larger scale than the toy shops that held them. The Grecon dolls would not have been sold with the shop/house originally. I think the floorpapers aren't original - Wakefield Prison did use floorpapers, but I haven't seen these in any of their houses before.

Yes indeed it's German - made by Theodore Heymann Holzspielwarenfabrik, Grossolbersdorf, in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) in the 1920s. This looks a fantastically big model! although I wonder if two storeys have been added between the lower two floors and the roof. The lower two floors have original floorpaper and stairs, which are absent from the higher floors. Very nicely done on the outside, though.

There are no albums in this category on this new website yet, but there are 3 on the old website. One is mine, so I am remiss in not adding it here, sorry ! This one looks like a larger version of mine, which is in a 1927 catalogue.

I have directories of makers put out by some dolls house magazines - I think some are from the 1990s/2000s. They're in Darwin - I can check when I get home again in about 3 weeks. All I've found so far online is some ads for a Cliff Brown, artist, in Wells in 1988 and 1990, and some large cut-out Dickensian figures he made for a Christmas display in Wells in 1990. I don't know if that was the same Cliff Brown - if it was, he must have moved. Anyway, I'll check the directories when I'm home.

Rebecca Green (Admin)created the topic: Magazine articles wanted!

Topic title: Magazine articles wanted!

Topic bescription:

I'd like to invite all members and readers to think about contributing an article to the magazine. On a strict 3 month schedule, we'd have one coming out this month (January). However, your administrators are still learning how to do things like create new magazine pages and send emails to all members, so we are thinking that February is more realistic.

As soon as we've worked out the email system, I will send an email to all members. For those of you reading the website, this is an advance request to put your thinking caps on about things to write about - whether that is your collection or restoring/building/furnishing one of your dolls houses, a visit to a museum, a particular maker or type of miniature/dolls house, dolls houses in fiction - there are many possibilities, and the likelihood is that if it interests you, it will interest and inspire other members too!

Please either contact me through the Contact Us form, or leave a comment here about your ideas for an article, and I'll get in touch with you. I look forward to hearing from you!
