I came to this via retirement and ill health that got worse post 60. Needed something to do and started this as a friend (ex student of mine) also mini-ed. I never had a dolls house, (never had a doll until someone found out when I was 5 - don't worry I didn't know what to do with it when I got it anyway) and love miniatures and am v interested in most doll houses, tho my main activity is to scratch-building to my own ideas and generally I like messing around with whatever comes to hand and mind. I've always made things from when very small (smaller than now even!) and wanted to learn new skills particularly woodwork. I've laid bricks (full size), mixed cement, drilled roof tiles (real ones) etc but never handled a saw. However, I still can't cut wood adequately! Mostly I use a hack saw and a small mitre set but really scissors are my biggest friend with wood strip as the guillotine style is something else I can't get accurate with. Oh, and wood filler is essential for where I've mucked up. I write an occasional blog theinfill.wordpress.com
Was a member of previous site as theinfill. Am still scratch building as I poddle along, alternating between houses and dressing trinket boxes as varying scale scenes as the style of the box design seems to dictate.
Theinfill is name chosen as I'm the middle of 5 sisters. Born in the West Riding, trained as teacher (68-71) used v little at first so temp-ed in London with a longish period as accounts clerk. Used teaching many years later for local FE college (Northumberland) teaching IT skills and RSA for external exams. Must have had nearly 30 different jobs in my life, picking up bits of training and pieces of experience here and there and I found not working was difficult.
