Jane (Wairarapa, NZ):

Yes, they were decorated by Triang before sale in a range of wallpapers and floor papers which can help to date the houses. Likewise each room had a fireplace (traditional or, later, Art Deco style), the bathroom had a bath, the kitchen had a dresser, range (later a gas stove) and sink. Each era had a range of typical wallpapers that might be used in the rooms. They were not "cookie cutter" interiors. What state is your Triang in? Could the original papers be below whatever's on the walls now or has it been stripped clean and painted? (Some Triang models, eg the Art Deco, were painted in soft colours but the Stockbrokers were wallpapered.) Some delicate probing with a scalpel might be called for to see if your original papers are still there. If not, that's a great pity in one way but it gives you free rein to use whatever reproduction or contemporary (with the age of the house) papers you like and a blank canvas is always fun. It would be much easier for us to advise you if you could put up some photos of your house, exterior (to help with dating) and interior.

Topic description:

Hello and please help! I'm new to the world of dolls houses and recently bought one for myself and my daughter to restore. I've since discovered that it is a Triang no 91 house. I really want to try to restore its original interior but every example I've found have a different interior to mine and each other. Why is this? We're they decorated by the owner after purchase? Perhaps sold on different dates with different interior? I really have no idea and was wondering if anyone could enlighten me! Thanks
