Dolls' Houses
Past & Present

A website and ezine about dolls' houses: antique, vintage and modern.
Plus furniture and accessories.

Issue 28/29 (March - June 2016)

Editor's Message

My apologies once again for another late issue. This one is so late that it's appearing when the next one is due, so I have called it the March-June issue!

If issues were given names, this one would be 'Our Clever Members' - so many of the articles describe dolls houses or rooms that members have either given new life to, or have made themselves - from new materials, cardboard boxes or discarded items. My proposed article on Japanese dolls houses has been held over until the next issue, but three articles have a Japanese theme - one about a genuine antique Japanese house, one about creating a Japanese-style house in an oriental lamp, and one about a stall made from a currently available kit. Celia Thomas of KT Miniatures shares what she and I have been able to discover about a previously unknown (or at least hardly known) maker of dolls house furniture, while Alice Sage, until recently a curator at the V&A Museum of Childhood, shares the process of re-seeing one of that museum's well-known antique dolls houses.

This issue features dolls houses from the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, from the UK, Japan and the US. In our DIY section, we have instructions for making a fantastic dress, suitable for a story-book heroine! I hope you find lots to enjoy and inspire you - until next time.
