Added: 13 Jun 2020

Item Description

For sale by member Michele M:

This is a beautiful suite of Art Deco large scale doll furniture, that was originally designed for the 'La Bleuette' Doll made by S.F.B.J Jumeau, French doll manufacturers.

Bleuette was a doll that was given to subscribers of the publication for young girls 'La Semaine de Suzette' in the early 1900's. The doll became a popular character with her own wardrobe of clothing and accessories, including furniture such as these pieces, that were made to scale for the Bleuette doll. They were sold in Paris at the Le Printemps store in the 1920's - 1960's. The suite of furniture is made of solid wood and comprises a very pretty stencilled design on a painted duck egg blue background. The suite includes:

Armoire with three central drawers and two doors, the piece beautifully decorated with a stencilled orange and fruit design. Measures 35cm tall x 32 cm wide by 11 cm deep.

A chest of drawers with four drawers and with little metal handles and stencilled floral design on each drawer. Measures 20 cm tall x 17 cm wide x 11 cm deep.

A sideboard/buffet piece with two doors and with stencilled floral design. Measures 27cm tall x 22 cm wide x 9cm deep.

Two bedside cabinets with stencilled floral design on door. Measure 22 cm tall x 11 cm wide x 10.5 cm deep. Each piece is raised on little bun feet.

The set is overall in very good condition with some fading to the paintwork commensurate with the age of the pieces. There are a few worm holes in the chest of drawers and one of the bedside cabinets which have been treated with woodworm solution. No signs of active worm exist.

This is a large set and will need to be posted by a courier service in the U.K. For overseas enquiries please contact me for a shipping quote.

Item Description

Volume 1 of Liza's lavishly illustrated history of Baby & Dolls’ Houses
and the makers of their furnishings

This book provides a vibrant and revealing insight into the world of antique dolls’ houses. A passion for antique dolls’ houses, 18th and 19th century interiors and wallpapers, architecture and social history has been the inspiration for the writing of this book. Liza Antrim is one of the leading experts in her field. Trained as a picture restorer, she has brought her skills to bear on dolls’ houses which have suffered from generations of play and ‘improvements’. The result is a record of authentic period interiors that are hardly ever seen in the full scale world, a fascinating window into the past. Lavishly illustrated, this beautiful book reveals previously unseen houses, many with original contents and decorations. Original and important research into several newly discovered English makers and toymen makes this an indispensable work of reference.

Purchase & other details for Family Dolls' Houses of the 18th & 19th Centuries can be found at www.ciderhousebooks.com.

A German edition of this book is available from Swantje-Koehler-Verlag (info@swantje-koehler-verlag.de).

Volume 2, Liza's second book (Family Dolls' Houses of the 18th & 19th Centuries - see above for details), is now also available and is a worthy companion to Volume 1.
